At Portarlington Primary School, students are engaged in the following specialist subjects.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program provides students with the opportunity to express their ideas and emotions creatively and imaginatively. Students are taught to express themselves through painting, drawing, collage, modelling and sculpture. A hands-on arts pedagogy is paired with learning about influential artists, styles and art culture in our society.
Performing Arts
It is widely understood that engaging in the performing arts significantly enhances a student's academic performance and overall development. At Portarlington Primary School, students are introduced to the different elements of dance, drama and music through songs, percussion activities, dance routines and drama games to help develop their creative and expressive capacities. Students are provided with a safe, respectful, collaborative space that encourages individual expression and promotes student voice.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Curiosity, creativity and wonder guide our STEM program at Portarlington Primary School. Through science, technology, engineering and mathematics, students explore, question and make meaningful connections to the world around them. Our STEM program develops students who are problem solvers, critical thinkers, and curious, confident learners.
Physical Education
At Portarlington Primary School, we believe that the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities, is vital. We focus on developing key movement skills, encouraging fair play, and building resilience, while ensuring every student enjoys learning and growing. Through interschool sports events, students in our senior classes have the opportunity to compete, develop sportsmanship, and represent the school with pride. We aim to inspire students to be active and develop lifelong healthy habits.
