At Portarlington Primary School students are engaged in a rich, holistic and flexible inquiry curriculum that builds on their knowledge, current understandings and wonderings. Students are taught to explore, think critically to answer questions, make discoveries and test those theories in search of new understanding.
Our teachers develop termly Inquiry Units based around a core ‘big question’ that lead students to inquire into a number of real-life issues to help them understand the world around them, while also developing the critical inquiry skills they need to help them navigate through life in a future very much unknown.
Throughout our inquiry learning, students are taught to explore, thinking critically to answer questions, make discoveries, and test those theories in search of new understanding. Inquiry learning also focuses on developing student understanding of the role they play in society and how they can give back to the community, making a difference both where they live and on a global scale.
